Former Celtic player and coach Kolo Toure has been appointed by Manchester City as a first team coach. Pep Guardiola has moved to strengthen his back room staff after an uncharacteristically poor season.
Toure spent last season as the U18’s Assistant Lead Coach with City but was given a temporary promotion to the first team operating as an assistant coach during the Club’s FIFA Club World Cup campaign. Now, City have confirmed that Toure has been appointed to work alongside Guardiola as the legendary boss looks to bring more silverware to the blue side of Manchester.
Toure, formerly of Arsenal and Man City, played under Rodgers at Liverpool and Celtic before joining him on his coaching staff in Glasgow. The former Ivory Coast Internationalist followed Rodgers to the English Premier League in February 2019 before departing in 2022 for Wigan Athletic.
The move to The Latics didn’t go to plan and he soon found himself out of management. Although, in 2024, Toure returned to Man City and worked with the youth team last season.
Toure made 17 appearances for Celtic during the Invincible season before hanging up his boots. The 44-year-old made his name at Arsenal, where he enjoyed success, as well as Man City and Liverpool. Toure is fondly remembered at City, who he helped win the Premier League with in 2012.
