Gunners did in for big finale

No one can argue that Arsenal’s potential Premier League coronation has been a flawless process after this encounter.

Mikel Arteta’s side ensured that a potentially anticlimactic finale to this domestic campaign’s battle for supremacy has officially been taken off the table.

A hard-fought win at Old Trafford ensure that, no matter what Manchester City do against Tottenham, the title cannot be wrapped up until next weekend.

Leandro Trossard’s early first-half opener suggested that the potential floodgates might open for the visitors after comfortably dominating proceedings.

Yet the only outpouring came in the skies above the Theatre of Dreams, which was doused in a thunderstorm towards the end of this cagey affair.

Red Devils defy split loyalties talk

The culmination of a season-long pitched battle between north London and Manchester has split opinion.

Many Tottenham supporters were already prepared to hold their nose on a defeat to City if it denies the Gunners the title.

At Old Trafford, however, a similar appetite to deny their own local rivals appeared non-existent both on and off the pitch.

Erik ten Hag’s men were walking wounded, with Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford notably absentees, but belatedly rallied.

Throughout, the United faithful chanted relentlessly at a time when there has been precious little for them to sing about this week.

Diallo seizes his opportunity

Amad Diallo had become something of a forgotten man for United where the Premier League is concerned.

Even an extra-time winner against Liverpool in the FA Cup failed to catapult the Ivory Coast international into a starring role.

But a first domestic start since a final-day win at Wolves in 2021 had a desired effect as Diallo seized his opportunity.

During the first half alone, the 21-year-old had completed more dribbles than the visitors’ starting line-up combined.

Unfortunately, an injury sustained shortly after the interval curtailed the impact of one of United’s few shining lights in the game.
