Riccardo Orsolini has admitted that ‘nine times out of 10’ he does not score from the position from which he hit the late winner during Bologna’s 1-0 victory over league leaders Inter in Serie A on Easter Sunday.

Orsolini scored the winning goal courtesy of an overhead kick with 30 seconds of injury time remaining of the game between Bologna and Inter at the Dall’Ara on Sunday evening.

Orsolini’s winner means that Napoli are now level on points with Inter at the top of the Serie A table with five games left to play in 2024-25. It also means that Bologna are back into the top four and the Champions League positions, although that could still change by the end of Monday’s fixtures depending on results elsewhere.

Speaking to DAZN after full-time, Orsolini explained what was going through his head when he attempted that late, late overhead kick.

He said that it was: “A crazy finale. We’re chasing a dream that we’ve been obsessing over until the final part of the season. We always want to give out best, even in these tricky matches.

“I was in a slightly backwards position, so I tried to coordinate. I’ve tried it before, nine times out of ten, I don’t make it. I’m happy with the importance of the goal and for the three points. I hope I’ve given a gift to the Piazza.”

Orsolini was also asked about his head coach, Vincenzo Italiano, who was sent off shortly into the second half.

He replied: “I know the coach cooks something up from time to time, but today he cooked up a treat. Then they chucked him out, badly. It happens, it’s fine.

“The fans believe in the Champions League, we just have to work hard.”
