Tomorrow afternoon, Spurs will be over in East Anglia for match day 26 of the Premier League season, as they face Ipswich Town - for a first 15:00 GMT kick off since Brentford at home, all the way back in September.
Ipswich, who are managed by former Tottenham Hotspur academy coach Kieran McKenna, come into the game sat in 18th place in the Premier League, though could be 19th depending on how Leicester City fare in their game that takes place tonight.
The Tractor Boys have only won three games this season – with one, to absolutely nobodies surprise, being at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in November. That said, for a side who were playing in League One two seasons ago – being two points off safety with 13 games remaining is a very respectable effort.
Out of those three wins – only one was at home, when they beat Chelsea 2-0 right at the end of 2024. They have had some credible draws this season, particularly with ten men away to Aston Villa last weekend, as well as at home to Fulham, away to Brighton, and in the reverse fixture against Villa.
That said, their last home game yielded an embarrassing 1-0 defeat at home to Southampton, giving their visitors 33% of their total seasons points in one afternoon, making it four defeats in a row. One of those defeats was a 6-0 at home to Manchester City. No shame in losing to City, but given the current woes of Pep’s side, six goals with no response was alarming.
In terms of dangermen, no prizes for guessing who we begin with here. Spurs linked Centre-Forward Liam Delap has scored 10 goals in 24 games this season, scoring at a rate of every 186 mins, just more than one in two – whilst scoring those goals from just 7.48 xG, showing that he is making the most of the scraps he is provided.
Behind him, there is not a lot of creativity – though Julio Enciso and Omari Hutchinson, who take up two of the three positions behind the striker, are sharpshooters and can have shown before that they are capable of finding the net from distance. That said, Enciso did go off injured last week.
In goal, Alex Palmer made his debut against Villa after signing from West Bromwich Albion on deadline day, and made six saves – including two or three absolutely incredible stops. Spurs will have to be at their best to get past him enough times to win the game.
Back in November, Sammie Szmodics was one of two players to find the net for McKenna’s side, but missed the game at Villa Park. Him and Enciso potentially missing the game would be big for Ange’s side.
At left-back, Leif Davis has gained plaudits for his offensive contribution, though leaves plenty to be desired defensively. Owing to that, the less exciting, but more solid Conor Townsend came in against Villa, and had a very good game. Jacob Greaves and Dara O’Shea are the tested centre back duo, and are good box defenders.
At right-back, Axel Tuanzebe was sent off in the game at Villa, so Ben Johnson, who played on the right wing, could move back there. Finally, in midfield, the duo of Kalvin Phillips and Jens Cajuste are likely to be the double pivot tomorrow.
