The results over the weekend means that Bologna will be playing Champions League football for the first time in their history next season, and yet Thiago Motta’s future remains uncertain.

Milan were heavily linked with Motta but Juventus swooped in while the Rossoneri were watching Pioli rack up win after win in March. Then, Gianluca Di Marzio and other sources stated that Milan had re-established relations with Motta’s entourage in recent hours to probe his availability.

As Radio Rossonera write, the club that Motta will manage next season is still unclear, even if there are indications that he could remain at Bologna or that he has a verbal agreement with Juventus.

Some interesting clues have come from Alessandro Canovi who is the agent that looks after the interests of the former Inter and PSG midfielder, as he spoke to TMW Radio.

“The season still needs to be finished, nothing has really been decided yet. There will be a way to verify the situations, but taking it for granted that it will go one way or the other makes no sense. It will depend on the projects,” he said.

Bologna’s CEO Claudio Fenucci was interviewed on Sky and he was asked about what the future holds for Motta, who is on an expiring contract and would therefore be free to join a team of his choosing.

“Only Thiago knows what he will do next and soon we will all know… In his last interview, he said that when there is something new to say, he will tell everyone, so I stick to that,” he said.

“We will talk over the next few days, he knows that we would like to continue with him for all he has given the team, not just in terms of their performances. It would be marvellous to continue together, now we need to talk to him.

“When we hired Thiago, he represented something new, a different model of football and of football culture. He played in big clubs, he was able to assimilate those concepts on how to deal with teams.”
