Isak to Anfield? Danny Murphy Tips Liverpool as Title Certainties With One ‘Wow’ Signing

Liverpool’s summer evolution is well underway, and the buzz around Anfield is only intensifying. Jeremie Frimpong is already through the door, while highly rated stars Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez are expected to be confirmed shortly. But it’s the latest rumour that has truly set pulses racing on Merseyside – a potential move for Newcastle’s Alexander Isak.

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy believes that if the Reds pull off this blockbuster transfer, they would be “nailed-on” to retain the Premier League title next season. Speaking on talkSPORT, Murphy didn’t hold back in his assessment of what Isak could bring to Arne Slot’s new-look side.

Murphy’s Bold Call on Liverpool’s Title Chances

“I think so. I think you become favourites once you’ve won it. Then you make additions and they have, or are doing – I know some of them aren’t over the line yet,” said Murphy when asked if Liverpool were favourites for 2025/26.

He continued: “The big thing is who comes in and who goes out. I’m hypothesising here and it probably won’t happen, but there’s been some news about Isak possibly going to Liverpool as well. I know that sounds a bit ‘wow’, but can you imagine? All of a sudden, there’s not a conversation; of course Liverpool are favourites then.”

It’s a tantalising thought for Reds supporters – the Premier League’s second-top scorer in 2024/25 pulling on the iconic red shirt. And with Newcastle reportedly slapping a £150 million valuation on the Swedish striker, such a deal would undoubtedly send shockwaves through the football world.

Liverpool’s Need for a Clinical Finisher

While Liverpool boast attacking options in Darwin Núñez, Diogo Jota, and Luis Díaz, their output last season left room for improvement. Núñez and Jota combined for just 16 goals across 84 appearances – a figure that pales in comparison to Isak’s 23-goal haul for the Magpies.

Isak wouldn’t just strengthen Liverpool’s attack – he would transform it. A tall, skilful finisher with pace, flair, and composure in front of goal, he offers everything needed to lead the line at a club pushing for both domestic and European dominance.

With speculation mounting around Núñez’s potential exit – and clubs already circling – FSG could be tempted to reinvest smartly, using the proceeds to target a true marquee forward.

Price Tag or Not, Isak is a Title-Changing Prospect

Liverpool’s interest may be difficult to turn into a deal. Newcastle will be desperate to keep their star man, and the Magpies’ reluctance to negotiate is justified. But as Murphy rightly points out, sometimes football’s biggest moves come from seemingly unlikely scenarios.

“If it happens,” Murphy concluded, “it really would be hard to back against the Reds celebrating a 21st league title next May!”

Our View – Anfield Index Analysis

From a Liverpool supporter’s perspective, Danny Murphy’s comments resonate on multiple levels. We’ve all seen flashes of brilliance from Núñez and Jota, but consistency has been sorely lacking. A clinical No.9 has long been the missing piece – and Alexander Isak fits that bill perfectly.

The idea of signing a player like Isak isn’t just about excitement – it’s about making a statement. Isak’s 23-goal return in a team that struggled with injuries and creativity shows he’s ready for the next step. Imagine him playing off Salah and Wirtz just behind him. That’s not just fantasy – that’s frightening potential.

Liverpool fans know the club won’t splash £150m lightly. But after winning the league, this is the moment to strike while momentum is high. If FSG really want to back Arne Slot and build a legacy, this is the type of signing that says: We’re not done yet.

So yes, it might be farfetched. But as we’ve learned in recent years – from Alisson to Van Dijk – sometimes the “wow” signings are exactly what take Liverpool from contenders to champions.
