One more move could make it the perfect summer for Manchester City

So far this summer Manchester City have signed five players. The summer signings of Rayan Ait-Nouri, Rayan Cherki, Marcus Bettinelli, Tijjani Reijnders and Sverre Nypan give Pep Guardiola’s squad a more balanced look. The imminent arrival of James Trafford would seemingly give City a goalkeeper who could take the mantle as Manchester City’s number-one keeper for a decade. If Manchester City could sign a right-back by the end of the summer transfer window they’d have almost had the perfect summer transfer window in terms of incomings.

The Manchester City squad is stacked with quality options.

After a busy summer of signings, Pep Guardiola’s squad is now packed with quality options. Although that has somewhat been forgotten given the fashion in which Manchester City went out of the FIFA Club World Cup at the hands of Al Hilal.

Rayan Ait-Nouri’s arrival from Wolverhampton Wanderers gives City the left-back they’ve so desperately craved. The Algerian international’s arrival should facilitate Josko Gvardiol’s move to centre-back on a full-time basis. Gvardiol figures to be the future of Manchester City’s defence. With Ruben Dias, Nathan Ake, John Stones, Manuel Akanji, Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis, there is a stack of quality options for Pep Guardiola to utilise in defence. Right-back is seemingly a battle between Matheus Nunes and Rico Lewis for the number one spot. If City could sign a quality right-back they’d have the ideal defensive combination. Matheus Nunes looks to be a squad player rather than a first-choice right-back. Rico Lewis looks to be destined to become a midfielder.

The signings of Rayan Cherki and Tijjani Reijnders give Manchester City a stronger look in midfield. Reijnders looks to be the ideal midfielder to complement Rodri. The Dutch international will have a crucial role to play for City while Rodri seeks to return to full fitness. Rayan Cherki should help fill the void left by Kevin De Bruyne’s departure. Cherki will bring creativity and the ability to create something out of nothing to Pep Guardiola’s squad. Their arrival at the Etihad does give City a stronger look in midfield.

Up front, Erling Haaland and Omar Marmoush should provide the goals City needs. Add in Jeremy Doku, Savinho, Phil Foden and Oscar Bobb to the equation and Manchester City’s attack could be lethal next season.

Signing a right-back may depend on who leaves City this summer.

As mentioned above, if Manchester City can sign a quality right-back, they’ll have had the ideal summer. But to facilitate the arrival of another player, players will have to leave the club. Perhaps City will focus on outgoings before looking at signing a right-back. Jack Grealish, James McAtee and Kalvin Phillips all appear set to leave the club. Who joins them is the mystery. The City squad could probably benefit from selling a centre-back or two. Perhaps a midfielder like Ilkay Gundogan may depart. Stefan Ortega is seemingly on his way. Ekrem Konur reports that five clubs have an interest in signing Stefan Ortega. It looks like it is a matter of time before he leaves the club.

To sign a right-back Manchester City will likely have to sell players first. But it does seem that signing a right-back would make it the ideal summer transfer window for the club. So the quicker that City can let players go it may pave the way for them to make their final move for the summer. Right-back is the biggest void in Pep Guardiola’s squad so if it is filled City will enter the 25/26 season with the perfect squad to chase honours next season.
