La Liga giants Real Madrid have on Wednesday been afforded some altogether timely positive news on the personnel front.

This comes amid confirmation that a leading member of the club’s midfield ranks is primed to stay put for next season.

The subject of the engine room options set to be at the disposal of Real boss Carlo Ancelotti has of course taken its place front and centre in the headlines in Spain over the last 24 hours.

This comes after Toni Kroos dropped nothing short of a bombshell, in announcing his decision to retire following the upcoming European Championships.

Safe to say, then, that all associated with Los Blancos were no doubt desperate for some news of a more encouraging nature on Wednesday.

And, as alluded to above, a short time ago, precisely that was forthcoming.

As per a report from Marca, Real Madrid and Luka Modrić have reached a full agreement on the terms of a one-year contract extension.

The Croatian was previously tipped to move on this summer, but those behind the scenes at the Santiago Bernabéu have since been convinced of the merits of their engine room veteran staying put.

An official announcement regarding Modrić’s new deal is expected imminently.
