The display put forth by Barcelona youngster Vitor Roque for Real Betis this evening highlighted both exactly why the Blaugrana brought him in in the first place, and why they ultimately opted to let him go.

Roque, for his part, was thrown in from the off on Wednesday, for his latest appearance for the aforementioned Betis.

And the Brazilian went on to make a telling impact.

Roque played a part in both of the goals netted by the Verdiblancos, including winning a penalty en route to a 2-1 triumph.

Turning attentions towards his overall display, though, and the young attacker showcased the kind of traits which saw him make a name for himself as one of Brazilian football’s breakout stars.

Roque’s movement was excellent, his work rate impressive, and he managed to keep the Getafe backline occupied and engaged throughout.

And yet, despite all of this, the South American continued to look, at best, raw…

When presented with goalscoring opportunities, Roque fluffed his lines badly on a pair occasions.

His touch, in addition, more than once left something to be desired…

Barcelona were heavily criticised for their treatment of Vitor Roque following his January arrival at the club, and rightly so.

However, the decision to farm him out on loan, with the possibility of the striker returning to Catalunya a more polished player down the line, based on the evidence thus far looks an increasingly understandable one.

Roque boasts many of the necessary qualities needed to succeed at the top level of the game. For a club challenging for major honours right now, though, he does not yet quite fit the bill.
