Omar Berrada officially starts as Manchester United’s new CEO today | OneFootball

Manchester United’s new CEO Omar Berrada has officially begun his first day of work at Old Trafford.

The 46 year old announced on his LinkedIn profile page that he was “starting a new position as Chief Executive Officer at Manchester United Football Club.”

The Moroccan was the first major hire of the Ineos era after Sir Dave Brailsford and Jean-Claude Blanc were appointed to the board.

It was officially announced in January that United had successfully poached the highly-respected chief football operations officer at their cross-city rivals, Manchester City.

Despite agreeing a deal so early on in their reign, an agreement with City meant that he had been on gardening leave until today.

In recent weeks there have been a flurry of recent appointments at the club with Dan Ashworth finally joining as sporting director and Christopher Vivell as director of recruitment.

Jason Wilcox has also been recruited to the role of technical director and he has previously enjoyed a fruitful working relationship with Berrada at City.

After years of unsuccessful and frankly deeply unpopular CEOs such as Ed Woodward and Richard Arnold, Ineos will be hoping that the club have finally made the right appointment.

Berrada has been described as “integral to the success experienced by the Citizens on and off the pitch” in recent years.

United’s new CEO had his first major appointment in football in 2004 when he became head of sponsorship for Barcelona before leaving in August 2011 to join City.

There he held numerous roles such as head of international business development and “director of partnership sales and group commercial director before he became chief operating officer in September 2016.”

With United’s entire sporting department now finally in place, United fans will hope the club can look forward to unprecedented stability, know-how and success off the pitch which the Red Devils’ have been starved off since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013.
