RB Leipzig have announced former Werder Bremen coach Ole Werner as their new permanent head coach, replacing Marco Rose.

Werner joins Leipzig after they had to pay a fee that is reported to be around €2m to release him from his Bremen contract, despite Werner choosing to leave the club.

The head coach signs a contract at the Red Bull Arena until 2027, and he will be joined by his assistants from Bremen, Patrick Kohlmann and Tom Cichon.

On becoming Leipzig’s head coach, Werner said:

” I’m delighted to be the head coach of RB Leipzig from now on. During the very detailed discussions, it was immediately apparent that both sides share the same ideas about the style of play and the way we work. This made it easy for me to decide on this joint path.  RB Leipzig stands for a bold and attacking style of play with a recognizable character, as well as for a professional and ambitious approach. The club has ambitious goals and aspirations. These are precisely the parameters that convinced me and to which I want to contribute. I’m looking forward to getting to know the players and staff and would love to get started right away with my coaching team. I’ve been told how much Leipzig has to offer – I’m really looking forward to this great city and its people!”

Werner will face a tough task ahead of him at the Red Bull Arena. Not only are Leipzig not in Europe, but there is a mass exodus of their best players this summer, and the lack of European competition has also made recruitment very difficult, as no European football makes Leipzig an unattractive place to play.
