Nantes have officially parted ways with head coach Antoine Kombouaré. As expected, Les Canaris have decided to end Kombouaré’s contract one year before its expiry. The former PSG centre-back no longer had the full backing of the club’s executives after another disappointing Ligue 1 season. The 8-time French champions concluded the campaign in 13th place, just three points ahead of 16th-placed Reims, who will face Metz in the relegation play-off in the coming days.

Today’s decision marks the end of Kombouaré’s second spell as Nantes head coach. Kombouaré was dismissed in 2023 when Nantes were looking at the barrel of a Ligue 2 relegation, but the former PSG head coach returned in the dugout at La Beaujoire, last year, when Les Canaris were again embroiled in a relegation battle following Jocelyn Gourvennec’s dismissal.

In Nantes’ statement, club owner and president Waldemar Kita thanks Kombouaré for his contribution and writes that the club intends to open a new chapter with a clear roadmap: “moving forward by advocating attractive football and trusting the Academy.” Free agent Pierre Sage and Dunkerque head coach Luis Castro have been touted as potential successors to Kombouaré.
