Manchester United have officially confirmed the exit of Facundo Pellistri, who has joined Greek side Panathinaikos on a permanent transfer.

On Tuesday, it emerged that United had reached an agreement with Panathinaikos over the transfer fee for Pellistri.

It was stated that the Red Devils were set to net €6m from parting ways with the Uruguayan.

A subsequent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United included a significant 45% sell-on clause as part of their arrangement with Panathinaikos.

According to The Manchester Evening News, in addition to the €6m fee, United also negotiated a further €2m in add-ons.

Furthermore, Erik ten Hag’s side have included a three-year buy-back clause in the deal taking Pellistri to Greece.

United have now confirmed Pellistri’s departure in a club statement.

The statement noted, “Everyone at the club would like to wish Facundo the very best of luck with his new club, and thank him for his efforts here.”

At Panathinaikos, Pellistri will work under a manager he knows all too well – Diego Alonso.

Alonso was the manager of Uruguay between 2021 and 2023 and included Pellistri in his squad for the 2022 World Cup, having handed him his debut against Paraguay earlier that year.

It’s believed that the opportunity to play under Alonso was a key reason behind Pellistri’s openness to join Panathinaikos.

Pellistri’s final appearance for United came when he was thrust into the action from the bench in the Community Shield against Manchester City.

The 22-year-old made 25 senior appearances for United since arriving at the club from Penarol in 2020.
