Celtic FC striker Kyogo Furuhashi (30) has joined Rennes, the Ligue 1 side have announced. Stade Rennais were in the market for a striker to bolster Jorge Sampaoli’s options. The Argentine reportedly identified the energetic Japan international as an ideal fit to inject some fresh blood in a stuttering Rennes side. The 30-year-old striker has put pen to paper over a two-and-a-half-year deal with Les Rouge et Noir. Rennes winger Jota (25) went the other way to sign for Celtic.
“He is a player that we really wanted and who can bring us depth,” said Sampaoli last week. Rennes and Celtic wrapped up a €12m agreement for the transfer of Furuhashi. The Japan international may make his Rennes debut this Sunday as the Bretons host in-form RC Strasbourg. Furuhashi added it was time for him “to look for a new challenge in a reknown league.” The Japan international is the third winter signing for Rennes after Ivory Coast international midfielder Seko Fofana and France international goalkeeper Brice Samba.
