Inter Milan wingback Tajon Buchanan has successfully undergone surgery on a fractured tibia.

The Canadian men’s national team confirmed that the 25-year-old had underwent the procedure in an official tweet.

Yesterday, Inter wingback Buchanan suffered a serious injury.

The Canadian has been with his national team at the Copa America for the past couple of weeks. He appeared in each of their three group stage matches.

However, Buchanan suffered a major injury in training yesterday,

Reports indicate that the injury occurred whilst the Inter wingback was challenging for a ball with a teammate during a morning training session.

Buchanan was taken to a Dallas hospital in ambulance. There, the 25-year-old’s injury was confirmed to be a fracture to his tibia.

And it quickly became apparent that the problem required surgery to correct.

There was no waiting around to perform the necessary procedure.

Today, Buchanan went under the knife. The Canadian men’s national team confirmed this.

Now, the question will be exactly how long the recovery timeline is for Buchanan.

One thing that is clear is that the Canadian will miss the rest of the Copa America with his national team, and preseason with his club side Inter.

Furthermore, Buchanan will miss a chunk of time at the start of the upcoming season.

Reportedly, the recovery timeline for the 25-year-old will be 4-5 months at the minimum.

Therefore, Buchanan is like to be on the sidelines until the last few weeks of 2024 at the very least. He could very well not make an appearance on the pitch until the start of next year.

Inter signed Buchanan from Club Brugge in the January transfer window of last season.

The Canadian did not make a start for the Nerazzurri over the second half of the campaign. However, he made several appearances off the bench, including scoring his first goal.
