Having sealed the signing of Lucas Chevalier just days earlier, Paris Saint-Germain have secured their next big-money recruit. Illia Zabarnyi (22) has joined from Bournemouth in a deal worth a reported €63m.

Until a few days ago, it had been a quiet transfer window for PSG. Renato Marin had been the only signing of note during the window. However, Chevalier joined for €40m from Lille OSC over the weekend, and he has been swiftly joined by Zabarnyi.

Negotiations to sign the defender have been going on since the start of the window. The player has always remained insistent that he wanted to join the reigning European champions, closing the door to other suitors. With the start of the Ligue 1 season less than one week away, he has his wish.

Zabarnyi’s move to PSG was confirmed on Tuesday morning. The Ukraine international has signed a five-year deal with the club.
