Earlier this week, Kylian Mbappe essentially confirmed on X that he will become Real Madrid’s new number ten from next season, thereby relinquishing the number nine shirt he wore last season.

The star striker posted a tweet that simply read, “10”, which was essentially a confirmation that he will wear the iconic shirt next season.

But until now, Real Madrid had made no official announcement regarding Mbappe’s number for the upcoming campaign.

That silence has finally ended. Not too long ago, Real Madrid quietly updated their official website to reflect the Frenchman’s new shirt number – No. 10.

The club also released updated player visuals featuring Mbappe, who will inherit a special number that has maintained quite a legacy over the years.

Previously worn by the likes of Luka Modric, Mesut Ozil, and Clarence Seedorf, the jersey is often associated with vision, flair and style.

Compared to his predecessors, Mbappe is a much more attacking player. But he does offer significant productivity style and panache, which does make him an ideal bearer of this special kit.

The Frenchman joined Real Madrid last summer after years of speculation, and while he wore No. 9 during his first season, the switch to No. 10 signals a more central role in the team’s new project under Xabi Alonso.

Mbappe’s new number also reflects his changing role, from a goal machine to an all-around leader in Madrid’s new era.
