Francesco Farioli’s move from OGC Nice to Ajax Amsterdam has been confirmed. After just one year at the Allianz Riviera, the Italian has left Le Gym and signed a three-year deal with the Dutch club.

Farioli’s move comes as no surprise. After a failed attempt to recruit Graham Potter, Ajax immediately turned their full attention to Farioli. The Italian was repeatedly coy when asked about a potential departure, insisting on a “bubble” mentality at the club, which was, according to Farioli at least, impervious to the incessant reports and speculation about his future.

Nice went on to finish fifth in Farioli’s first and only season in charge. He therefore achieved the set objective of returning the club to European football, however, in the wake of doing so, he has left, along with sporting director Florent Ghisolfi. There is therefore a rebuilding job to do at the Riviera club this summer.

Farioli has signed a three-year deal with Ajax, tying him to the club until June 2027. He will take Daniele Cavalletto and Felipe Sanchez Mateos with him to the Netherlands. Both therefore also leave Nice, alongside the manager.
