Official: Cremonese extend contract of sporting director Giacchetta | OneFootball

Cremonese have confirmed today that club sporting director Simone Giacchetta has signed a contract extension, keeping him at the newly promoted side until June 30, 2027.

Giacchetta signed with the Tigri in 2021 and has overseen great success in his four years at the club, helping the club achieve two promotions to Serie A in the 2021-22 and 2024-25 campaigns.

In this most recent season in Serie B, the Lombard club finished in 4th place but managed to defeat Juve Stabia and Spezia in the play-offs to book their place back in Italy’s top flight.

Giacchetta signings help Cremonese soar

Giacchetta has helped orchestrate several important signings in the past few years, with Dennis Johnsen (signed from Venezia in the 2023-24 season) and Tommaso Barbieri (signed from Juventus’ Next Gen side last summer) playing a pivotal role in their promotion success this campaign. Johnsen scored eight goals and assisted a further seven in Serie B whilst Barbieri finished the season as the side’s joint top scorer with ten goals.

Loan signing Jari Vandepuette also proved instrumental, scoring five times and assisting 14 whilst former Palermo and Parma midfielder Franco Vázquez (also signed by Giacchetta on a free in July 2023) tied with Barbieri as top scorer.

In a statement on their official website, Cremonese praised Giacchetta for his “professionalism and dedication in his daily work” and celebrated his assistance in two promotions to Serie A and a Coppa Italia semi-final in the 2022-23 season.
