There’s a flurry of activity in the market this afternoon, as you’d expect.
Chelsea are close to sealing a deal to loan Joao Felix to AC Milan, and another one to send Carney Chukwuemeka to Borussia Dortmund. That will put them close to their limit of 6 outgoing loans of players to foreign clubs.
But coming the other way is Caleb Wiley. The summer signing has been on loan at Strasbourg, the Ligue 1 side owned by the same group as Chelsea. The club have just announced that he’s been sent to join Watford instead.
Returning Wiley from loan not only frees up one of these loan slots, it also brings the number of players we’ve got on loan at our sister club to 2, meaning any last minute spare parts can be sent there in the dying moments of the window.
With Chukwuemeka, Felix and Ben Chilwell all close to departing, there’s finally some room for Chelsea to manoeuvre with the next tier of players down waiting to find their home for the rest of this campaign.
Axel Disasi and Aaron Anselmino are potentially the big winners, as they aren’t needed in the main squad as it stands but aren’t going to find a permanent move anytime soon. We could well see the latter at Strasbourg, while Disasi should have interest from across the continent

Wiley had his time in France hampered by injury, and only made 3 starts in the league in the end for Strasbourg.
Hopefully the 20 year old can find fitness and opportunities at Watford. The sheer number of games to play in the Championship always makes it a solid choice for a loan for a young player trying to break into a team.
Good luck, Caleb!
