Marcel Rapp’s side ran riot in the first half, registering three goals to put the game beyond Dortmund’s reach.

While BvB would attempt to mount a comeback, it would ultimately be in vain as Jann-Fiete Arp made the most of Gregor Kobel venturing forward for a late Dortmund corner to score from just within the opposition half.

However, for as good as Kiel were, Die Schwarzgelben were equally as disappointing, losing the ball on a consistent basis within their half of the pitch, leaving themselves unprotected and allowing Kiel to create chances at will.

Careless play with the ball at their feet left the BvB backline exposed, but this is nothing new with Dortmund this season.

Nuri Şahin’s full-time thoughts

Speaking to Sky Germany after the final whistle, Nuri Şahin commented on BvB’s performance:

“It is disgraceful how we performed here. That is not worthy of a club like Borussia Dortmund—from the first to the last minute. There is nothing more to say.”

“As a player, you don’t have much say in a performance like that—and not as a coach either. It’s my responsibility. It’s absolutely disgraceful.”

As well as this, Şahin was questioned as to why his side have been unable to implement his style of play on a consistent basis:

“It is far too soon after the game to say why the team is not implementing it. The question is why we are not able to implement it every three days. We have shown time and again what we can do, but at the moment we don’t know what the outcome will be. That takes a lot of energy and a lot of points.”

A night that saw Dortmund lose and VfL Wolfsburg win has ensured that Die Schwarzgelben have fallen to ninth in the Bundesliga table, and as to how they move on from here is unknown, but three points against Eintracht Frankfurt on Friday one would suspect is a must.
