Initially, it was Arsenal who looked most likely to sign Rodrygo, offering the Real Madrid winger a fresh start and an exciting sporting project. Frustrated with his situation at the Spanish giants, Rodrygo was reportedly tempted by the Gunners’ approach. However, his hesitation led Arsenal to walk away from the deal.
Instead, they acted swiftly to secure Noni Madueke for £52 million, effectively ending their pursuit of the Brazilian.
Liverpool also showed interest, but recent reports revealed that they too have cooled their stance due to Rodrygo’s wage demands, further complicating Real Madrid’s efforts to sell the player to a Premier League club.
According to TBR Football, Tottenham Hotspur are now in pole position to sign the forward. The report claims that personal terms have been discussed, with Spurs preparing a substantial financial package to entice Rodrygo to north London.
The motivation behind Spurs’ move appears to be the potential departure of club legend Heung-Min Son. The South Korean forward is said to be considering a transfer to MLS side LAFC, and Spurs are eager to line up a marquee replacement. Rodrygo is viewed as a suitable heir, with TBR stating that “part of the North London club’s internal talks now focus on Rodrygo’s growing willingness to join.”

While Arsenal fans may be disappointed to see a former target join their rivals, many have moved on. With Madueke now on the books and Eberechi Eze reportedly close to joining, Arsenal’s attacking ranks are already well stocked.
Even so, Rodrygo remains a top-tier talent, and with Real Madrid lowering their asking price, there is still a chance Arsenal could re-enter the race. The Gunners have form when it comes to hijacking transfers, and if Mikel Arteta sees a long-term fit, the Brazilian’s story in England might yet take a red-and-white twist.
But for now, Spurs look ready to make a major statement.
Would you welcome a late Rodrygo swoop, Gooners?
