An interesting new report on the Alexander Isak transfer situation involving Newcastle United and Liverpool.

Nick Woltemade having been confirmed as a Newcastle United record signing this Saturday morning.

The £69.3m deal for the German international striker seeing Eddie Howe at last add a much needed striker to his summer transfer window business.

This NUFC striker signing predictably then seeing the usual ‘transfer window specialists’ and other disreputable media, claiming all sorts regarding Alexander Isak, fighting for our attention.

Amongst the ‘media’ claims prompted by the Nick Woltemade deal, there have been a number of ‘exclusives’ stating that new talks have been held between Newcastle United and Liverpool, with a transfer set to be made public very soon.

A widely quoted figure of £130m appearing in many of these stories.

However, Dominic King of The Mail has now dismissed these Alexander Isak claims on Saturday as nonsense:

‘Liverpool HAVE NOT agreed a £130m deal with Newcastle for Aleksander Isak.

The clubs aren’t in talks and it’s misleading to suggest they are.

The only deal Liverpool may complete before Monday is Kostas Tsimikas to Roma; significant chance there won’t be any arrivals.’

The Newcastle United owners have made it clear that they have no intention of selling Alexander Isak and so it would need a major turn around by them to change that stance.

Newcastle United have also made clear that for there to be any chance of Alexander Isak being sold, two things needed to happen.

United to sign two strikers, to replace Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak (if he was going to leave) AND a credible offer to be made by a potential buying club.

With only around 50 hours of this transfer window remaining, there has only been one derisory £110m offer made by Liverpool, with a month later no sign of a second bid from the scousers.

Whilst it is great to see Nick Woltemade sign of course, there is no way Eddie Howe is going to be left with just the one main striker. Especially with the demands of the Champions League as well.

As repeatedly indicated by the more reliable journalists covering NUFC, the Newcastle United owners were determined to sign a replacement for Callum Wilson, with Nick Woltemade now having ticked that box, but intent on Alexander Isak staying and Eddie Howe reintegrating him back into the Newcastle United group training and matchday squads.

Liverpool have spent almost £300m already this window on new players and all along it has been clear that their attention appears to be trying to get Alexander Isak on the cheap, to get the player and his agent to agitate as much as possible to try and force United to sell.

A strategy that was never going to work.

So does anybody really believe that the next 50 hours will suddenly see Liverpool change their stance and make a credible bid AND Newcastle United to get another major striker signing of their own over the line?
