Wingback Denzel Dumfries completely ran out of ideas in yesterday’s Serie A clash between Fiorentina and Inter Milan.
As TuttoMercatoWeb highlight, the player ratings for the match across Italian media have been far from kind to the Dutchman.
There has arguably been no Inter player who has been more in-form at the start of 2025 than Denzel Dumfries.
The most eye-catching aspect of the 28-year-old’s January was certainly his goals.
But even beyond that, Dumfries has really been finding ways to leave his mark on matches.
Dumfries has been a real outlet in possession for Inter. The former PSV wingback has used his pace and energy very well as he has also shown great positional intelligence and timing.
But Fiorentina posed a particular kind of challenge for Dumfries yesterday.
La Viola were not afraid to sit back and absorb pressure. They denied Denzel Dumfries the space in which to attack.

Finding big gaps away from the ball has been key to Dumfries’s contributions to Inter this season.
And against Fiorentina yesterday evening, those gaps simply never appeared.
And without the chance to stretch the pitch, Dumfries had little Plan B. He offered little in the way of a meaningful attacking contribution or quality around the penalty area.
