Nico Williams opens up on decision to snub Barcelona for Athletic Club | OneFootball

Athletic Club star Nico Williams has this week opened up on his decision to reject a move to La Liga rivals Barcelona, in favour of staying put in Bilbao.

Wide-man Nico of course took his place front and centre in the headlines throughout Spain early this month.

As much came after the 22-year-old left fans shocked, in committing to a contract with Athletic Club all the way through the summer of 2035.

Despite having come to an agreement on the terms of a deal with Barcelona several weeks prior, the Spanish international decided against linking up with Hansi Flick’s squad.

So, just what motivated Nico to reject the advances of one of world football’s biggest clubs… again?

Speaking during an interview with ESPN this week, the explosive attacker was drawn on precisely as much.

And Nico, in his response, went on to explain:

“I think we have a very long season ahead of us. We have very ambitious titles like the Champions League, which everyone would like to play in. What could be better than doing it with the club of my life? I would like to continue making history here at San Mames, with the fans, with my family, and with a lot of enthusiasm.”
