Manchester City are preparing to travel abroad to face Real Madrid in the two-leg of the UEFA Champions League playoffs round. The former side is trailing by a goal and needs to come up with solutions if they wish to qualify for the next stage.

The Citizens beat Newcastle United by 4-0 in their previous game, which would keep their heads high. However, the Whites are a different breed in the European championship and to overpower them in their own den, Pep Guardiola’s side needs to play some quality football.

Defence

Ederson committed silly mistakes in the first leg and would be hoping to not repeat them at any cost in this decisive game. Rico Lewis should be making way for Matheus Nunes for the right-back role.

Ruben Dias and Nathan Ake both didn’t participate in the previous game due to muscular tightness but should return and should be fit to take the centre of the defensive line. Left-back Josko Gvardiol remains a key performer for his side.

Midfield

John Stones was used as the defensive midfielder in the first leg but Nico Gonzalez is likely to get the nod for this leg. The latter has shown impressive glances and it will be a massive opportunity for him.

Attack

Savinho will be seen operating on the right flank with Omar Marmoush playing on the other hand. The latter scored a hattrick against Newcastle United and will be motivated to put an impact on this game.

Pep Guardiola rested both Bernardo Silva and Kevin De Bruyne against the Magpies indicating that the two veterans are likely to start against Madrid.

Erling Haaland escaped a serious injury and the Citizens would be hoping that he is fully fit to play and yield a positive result for his team.
