After a nine-month absence, Niclas Füllkrug returned to the Germany squad for the UEFA Nations League Finals. The West Ham forward missed 21 games across all competitions last season for the English side and lost his place in Julian Nagelsmann’s squad to Julian Nagelsmann and Deniz Undav.
Upon his return to the national team, Füllkrug discussed a ‘challenging’ year at West Ham but was looking forward to the task ahead in the German camp: “I’ve always performed well here and have a few qualities that are good for any team.” The 32-year-old has scored 14 goals in 22 games for Germany, seven of which came under Julian Nagelsmann.
With Tim Kleindienst absent from the Germany squad because of injury and Jonathan Burkardt also carrying a knock, Nagelsmann has Nick Woltemade and Undav available, but Füllkrug believes his skillset “will certainly be needed at some point.”
Speaking on the differences between the Bundesliga and Premier League, Füllkrug said: “I have a lot more space in front of me. The league is very dynamic, very physical, which suits me well.”
