Newcastle United have now turned down a third offer from Leeds United for Sean Longstaff.

Late on Wednesday afternoon, The Times say that their information is that the Elland Road club has been knocked back again.

Monday had brought news from David Ornstein of The Athletic that this improved third offer had gone in.

A total of £12m with £10m guaranteed and £2m of potential future add-ons if Sean Longstaff hit certain targets with Leeds United.

The Times though say that this latest bid has now been rejected as well and that Newcastle United value the midfielder at a higher price.

The report says that Eddie Howe and Newcastle United will be quite happy to keep Sean Longstaff, unless a suitable offer is made that meets their valuation.

Personally, reading between the lines, I think the reality is that Newcastle United are looking to sell Sean Longstaff but won’t do so on what they consider is the cheap. If/when the 27 year old does move to another club, almost certainly Newcastle would then look to bring a replacement in, which is why it is important to maximise what NUFC get for Sean Longstaff.

I think that £10m/£12m for a proven Premier League midfielder is on the skinny side, especially as Longstaff is only 27.

The Mag report – 7 July 2025:

‘Newcastle United have received a £12m offer from Leeds United for Sean Longstaff from Newcastle.

There has been longstanding reporting on interest from the promoted club for the 27 year old.

The ever reliable David Ornstein from The Athletic having the exclusive on this £12m bid from Leeds United for Sean Longstaff.

He says that this is actually the Elland Road club’s third offer for the Geordie midfielder.

Ornstein stating that this latest bid is for a guaranteed £10m, plus £2m in future add-ons.

The man from The Athletic says that Leeds United are now waiting for a response to the latest bid.

The report saying that personal terms have already been agreed between Sean Longstaff and Leeds United, so all that is needed now is for Newcastle United to say yes to the new improved bid.

Newcastle United triggered a one-year contract extension last year, which takes Sean Longstaff up to 30 June 2026.

David Ornstein adds; ‘As an academy graduate, Longstaff wants his boyhood team to be compensated rather than face losing him as a free agent next summer.’

Sean Longstaff has been a great servant to Newcastle United but I think it is very clear that for both club and player, the time is right to move on.

Having been an all but automatic first choice player the previous two seasons, Sean Longstaff only managed 788 minutes in the 2024/25 Premier League season (2517 minutes in 2022/23 PL season, 2748 minutes in 2023/24 PL season) and as last season went on, the Geordie midfielder used less and less.
