Newcastle United are weighing up a move for Porto striker Samuel Aghehowa, according to The Athletic.

Aghehowa has been a revelation since joining Porto from Atletico Madrid last summer for a fee of around €15 million on a five-year deal, which included a €100 million release clause.

He made an immediate impact with 27 goals and three assists in 45 appearances during the 2024-2025 season, establishing himself as one of Europe’s most promising young strikers.

His clinical finishing and sharp movement have drawn attention from several clubs around Europe, and Newcastle see him as an ideal candidate to lead their frontline over the coming years.

Newcastle’s interest in Aghehowa is not far-fetched given the increasingly urgent need to find a reliable goalscorer following Callum Wilson’s exit on a free transfer and the possibility that Alexander Isak could leave St James’ Park this summer.

The Magpies were previously keen on a deal to sign Benjamin Sesko, who has since opted to join Manchester United, leaving Newcastle with the need to turn to alternative targets.

Alongside Aghehowa, Newcastle have also been linked with Nicolas Jackson, Yoane Wissa and Jorgen Strand Larsen as the club intensifies its search for a new striker with under a month left in the window.

With Isak still away from the team, Newcastle will take to the field for tonight’s friendly against Espanyol with William Osula as their only recognised centre-forward.

It is imperative that they sort out their issues at the top end of the pitch before the start of the new Premier League season.
