Isaac Hayden still had a year left on his contract but after reaching this agreement with NUFC, he leaves as a free agent.

With Mike Ashley refusing to allow proper investment in the squad, by bringing in essential signings, the then Newcastle United instead gave a number of existing players ridiculously long contracts.

Isaac Hayden was one of those, given a new six year contract in 2020.

Isaac Hayden did a very good job for Rafa Benitez in helping United to get promotion and then stabilise in the Premier League. However, the level of wages and length of contract he was then later given by Mike Ashley in 2020, was clearly way beyond what should have happened. A committed player but basically Championship level in reality, as has been shown subsequently, when playing for the likes of QPR and Portsmouth in the second tier.

Hopefully now agreement has been reached with Newcastle United, Isaac Hayden can at last get a permanent deal at a club that can give him regular first team football in the coming years.
