Greetings to my fellow optimists, pessimists, and others in between, amongst Newcastle United fans.

Phew.

At last, the malaise has cleared and we got what we asked for, a spirited performance against the champions of, well everything, Premiership, Europe, as well as 115 charges… ahem.

What a difference from Fulham and for all of us who were getting perturbed at our lack of urgency, well, Newcastle United in typical style gave us their energetic and fantastic response.

First of all, ‘wor flags’, an outstanding display which touched Anthony Gordon and his robust response to the rumours going around about his head being turned, put to bed, hopefully the new contract is signed and judging from his comments post-match, and his goal celebration…

Well, the media have stubbed their pencils yet again and left floundering with another avenue of negativity closed down.

Whilst I am on the subject of media (I know, but it does rile me somewhat), the so-called experts got it completely wrong, and I will enjoy the rest of the season watching them recede into humiliation after their foolish comments about our predicted position this year.

Just in case anyone didn’t notice in the swish and warm comfy studios of their domain, we had an unprecedented number of injuries last year and still finished above Manure, with us almost beating Man City with a second string and down to naming keepers on the bench.

Taking into consideration the fact there is no European headache of flying to lesser-known destinations, (diplomacy at its best), we are well stocked in our squad to be, wait for it, title contenders.

Some on here dismiss the Newcastle United squad as miles away from Man City, and yes, Chelsea, only in numbers, but I believe with a full squad and a ‘normal’ amount of injuries and suspensions, we are up there with the best.

Saturday the media were preparing themselves for us turning over the sky blues, (just in case), citing injuries to KDB and Rodri as if their multi-million squad couldn’t cope, as after all, they’re miles ahead of our squad, aren’t they?

Actually, no they are patently not.

Newcastle United were missing BOTH our centre forwards and our mainstay centre back, amongst others, but no mention of that, funnily enough.

We could have beaten them and maybe if lady luck had shined on us, the merest of touches on Longstaff’s effort would’ve sealed a great win for us.

All of our team played as we knew they could.

Can you imagine if Man City were to lose the Viking?

Where would their squad be then?

We were without both of our strikers and not a peep from the lovely people commentating, apart from mutterings and zoom shots of poor Halaand’s sock, with a wee hole in it.

Bless.

BDB was a colossus, absolutely snuffed out the threat from the Norwegian marauder, and on another day, three points would’ve been ours.

All we need now is to maintain the momentum and tell our number one shot-stopper to kick the ball as hard as he can when it comes to him, otherwise, my heart is going to pack in, in due course.

Tonali looks classy, he oozes quality and I really believe when he gets into the rhythm he will be head and shoulders above any other midfielder in the land.

We have options all over the park, Eddie Howe has a formidable bench each match, which is reassuring and pivotal for our upward thrust to the top of the Premier League.

There is nothing to fear and everything to fight for and win.

All positive from my view and with the return of Botman soon, as well as our two strikers, we must surely realise that this season is going to be one where we will challenge the top four for the pinnacle.
