Newcastle United have officially announced the signing of Swedish winger Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest in a £55 million deal.

The 23-year-old forward joins the Magpies as they prepare for their return to the Champions League following a strong fifth-place finish in the Premier League.

Elanga was a standout performer for Forest last season, bagging six goals and 12 assists.

His contributions were instrumental in Forest securing European football as Nuno Espirito Santo’s side narrowly missed out on Champions League qualification.

“I’m excited, I’m really happy, but most importantly, I’m ready,” Elanga said on the completion of his move.

“I’m ready to put on this black and white top to fight for this team and give everything for the passionate fanbase that lives and breathes football.

“I had an amazing two years at Forest – they helped me to become the player I am today, but I’m really happy to be here now.”

Newcastle have been keen to strengthen at right wing for some time now and view Elanga as a perfect fit for their high-octane system.

The Swede’s impeccable fitness record, with only two Premier League games missed in two seasons at Forest, makes him a reliable addition.

Elanga’s arrival is expected to kick off a flurry of transfer activity at St James Park, with Newcastle targeting multiple additions.

They are in negotiations with Burnley over a deal for goalkeeper James Trafford, while a new centre-back is also expected to come through the door.
