Every Newcastle United fan will know that our all time Premier League top scorer (and indeed top scorer full stop), is Alan Shearer.

Most should also know that Alexander Isak is second and Callum Wilson third when it comes to Newcastle United players scoring Premier League goals.

It’s quite extraordinary that two of our top three Premier League goal scorers are in the current NUFC squad.

The Premier League is in it’s 33rd season and Newcastle United have competed in 30 of those.

We’ve had lots of brilliant players in that time but what stands out is that many of the greats we’ve had, often haven’t stuck around long enough. Especially when it comes to strikers.

The ten players with the most Premier League goals for Newcastle are as follows:

Beardsley, Cole and Ferdinand were all astonishing goal scorers but Beardsley was only with us in the Premier League for four seasons and wasn’t an out and out striker.

Les Ferdinand had just two seasons and Cole a season and a half.

Lee and Solano were incredible talents, and spent a lot longer with us, but both were players who were about so much more than their goals.

Below are the next 18 in our list of Newcastle United Premier League top scorers.

Once you get to joint 15th things get interesting, as the majority of the players here are from the current squad.

Joelinton is in that 15th spot and has 22 goals. He’s only 12 short of reaching Rob Lee.

Below him we have Bruno 16th, Murphy 17th, Gordon and Schar joint 18th and then Willock and Barnes joint 21st.

Of all those hundreds of players that have represented us in the Premier League era, we currently have a team currently providing 11 of our top 28 all time scorers!

Manchester United are a team that spent a long time at the top and kept a lot of their talismanic players season after season. They have 12 players on 62 goals or above (so with more goals than our second placed Isak) and four of theirs have over 100.

With the ambition behind us, it’s likely we will see many more of our top players hanging around longer and pushing the figures of our top 10 much higher. I’d imagine if we looked at this table in a decade there will be a lot of new names in that top 10 and the figures will be significantly higher.

How many of this current squad will be in the top 10 by the time they leave?

You’d think if Anthony Gordon stays for another five or six seasons, he could comfortably push himself into the top five and maybe take Wilson’s spot in third.

But there are certainly others that could overtake the likes of Ba and Speed and maybe others should they hang around long enough and continue to perform at the levels they are capable of.

Six more years averaging his current goals by season, in a Newcastle United shirt, and we’ll be looking at a new name at the top.
