Newcastle United are “prepared” to offer Alexander Isak a huge new deal to ward off interest from Arsenal and Liverpool in the summer transfer window.
The Sweden striker has been linked with a move to the Premier League’s top two clubs, as well as Barcelona, following a couple of outstanding seasons for the Magpies.
Isak scored 23 goals in the top flight last term, improving upon the 21 he scored the year before. He’s also registered eight assists across the past two campaigns.
Arsenal are on the hunt for a new striker to take them to the next level, while Liverpool have the financial clout to make a move despite already spending £200 million this summer.
Newcastle are desperate to hold onto their star forward and would command an astronomical fee for their star player. But their resolve could be tested by a head-spinning transfer bid, due to Profit and Sustainability Rules constrants.
Amid “concern” that they could receive an offer for Isak in July, Newcastle want to head off any potential move by making Isak the club’s “best-paid player” ever, according to The Times.
The Newcastle hierarchy are “ready to begin” contract talks with the 25-year-old and take his wages “beyond” £150,000. That would see him rake in more money than the club’s highest earners.
Isak, who joined the Tyneside outfit from Real Sociedad for £63 million in 2022, has three years remaining on his current contract.
Liverpool are “not actively seeking” a new no.9, but would be one of the few clubs capable of affording Isak if he chose to leave St James’ Park. They would certainly be able to offer him better terms than Newcastle.
The 2025 League Cup winner tried to tie the centre-forward down with a new deal last summer, but his agent put talks on hold.
