Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has moved to ease concerns over Alexander Isak’s fitness after the striker was forced off during the Magpies’ FA Cup defeat to Brighton.

Isak, who had been sidelined for Newcastle’s midweek Premier League loss to Liverpool due to a groin issue, returned to the starting XI on Sunday, scoring from the penalty spot in the first half. However, his night ended prematurely as he was substituted for Callum Wilson after receiving treatment.

With the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool looming on 16 March, Newcastle fans will have been concerned by the sight of their talisman exiting the pitch. However, Howe played down any fears of a serious injury.

Eddie Howe Clarifies Isak’s Condition

Speaking after the game, Howe reassured supporters that the Swedish forward’s withdrawal was precautionary rather than an indication of a significant problem.

“Alex just felt a bit of general tightness,” he said. “I don’t think it was an injury, it was just general tightness, but we felt as though he had to come off.”
