Newcastle United have reportedly tabled a formal bid for Benjamin Sesko as they seek to beat Manchester United to the RB Leipzig striker.
The two clubs have been heavily linked with the Slovenia international as they look to strengthen their respective frontlines ahead of next season.
The Magpies are keen to sign a new forward amid speculation swirling around Alexander Isak’s future. The Swede is currently training in Spain while he pushes for a move to Liverpool, who had a £110 million bid rejected this week.
Following the departure of Callum Wilson, Will Osula is their only recognised no.9 on their pre-season tour of Asia.
Newcastle have now stepped up their attempts to fill that void by making a “formal bid” for Sesko, according to Sky Sports News.
It is claimed that the offer is €75m (£65.5m) plus €5m (£4.3m) in add-ons, matching Leipzig’s valuation of the player.
Newcastle have “presented their vision” to Sesko and “want the deal to happen”, but the 22-year-old is “considering his options” amid interest from Man Utd. He is “open to both projects” as it stands.
Additionally, RB Leipzig are said to interested in Red Devils striker Rasmus Hojlund and have “explored the conditions of a loan”. United are reportedly considering including the Dane as part of a swap deal.
Man Utd were reportedly leading the race for Sesko’s signature on Friday following positive talks, but now risk missing out on the player unless they respond with an offer of their own.
Sesko has scored 39 goals in 87 appearances since joining the east German outfit from Salzburg in 2023.
