The New York Red Bulls confirmed, this Wednesday (8), the return of attacking midfielder Caden Clark to the club until the end of the season with an option to renew for 2023. The player had been sold to RB Leipzig/GER during the last season but remained in New York until the end of the competition.
In order to get Clark back, the RBNY had to come to terms with the MLS allocation rules. The club paid $575,000 from GAM to Toronto FC to take second place in the allocation draft. Then, in order to be the first choice to repatriate US players from European clubs, the New York Red Bulls had to shell out an additional $100,000 of GAM to FC Cincinnati in order to have the right to re-sign Caden Clark.
“We are delighted to be able to bring Caden back this season with the opportunity to extend it for another year. Caden gained experience last season from his time with us and with the national team this offseason. I’m sure this will put him in good stead for a great season.” – Kevin Thelwell, sports directors of the New York Red Bulls.

The news regarding the return of the 18-year-old Clark to the New York Red Bulls gained strength in January after the German newspaper Bild revealed that RB Leipzig would not want to rely on Clark’s football due to the increase in the number of cases from the COVID-19, mainly caused by the Ômicron variant.
After debuting for the New York Red Bulls in 2018, Caden Clark has played a total of 33 games for the New Jersey team, with seven goals scored and three assists. However, in 2021, the attacking midfielder had to undergo appendicitis surgery in June, which left him out of action for six weeks, hampering his performance in the sequence of the season.
