Will Still is in talks with Southampton to take the vacant manager's job which could in-turn be a boost for Sheffield Wednesday and their hopes of keeping Danny Rohl.

Wednesday finished the season in 12th place in the Championship, but amid rumours of a breakdown in the relationship between Rohl and the club's owner, Dejphon Chansiri, Rohl has been linked with several different clubs, although the Southampton position has been considered his most likely next destination.

But this week, Rohl might have been replaced as the favourite for this position by the former Lens head coach Will Still, who quit his position with the Ligue Un club at the end of the season amid mounting speculation that he could be heading for St Mary's.

Rohl's relationship with Dejphon Chansiri has become "strained"

We spoke to FLW's Sheffield Wednesday fan pundit Patrick McKenna and asked him whether these revelations might change Rohl's position regarding Wednesday: "It probably does slightly change Danny Rohl's position at Sheffield Wednesday. I know he's been linked to a few clubs, but Southampton was the one he was most linked to, and I was quite sure he'd be going there. I thought Southampton were going to make an approach again this summer."

McKenna told us that the reason for Rohl's desire to leave Hillsborough is quite clear: "It has been quite clear that Danny Rohl's relationship with Chansiri is strained, and Danny does essentially feel that he's done what he can at Wednesday and would be looking to move on. However, I don't think he would be going anywhere unless a club comes in for him, so if Southampton don't come in for him and no-one else does, he will most likely be here for the start of the season."

Our fan pundit believes that there is only one realistic "game-changer" which would keep Rohl at the club: "I think the only game-changer with this would be if there was a takeover, and the new owners matched Danny Rohl's ambitions. Then I would say he would definitely stay on. I'm a bit surprised by the Southampton situation. It may change things slightly, but unfortunately for fans, we are still in the dark about what is going to happen, and we would all love to get some clarity."

Clarity is what everybody at Sheffield Wednesday needs following a messy end of season

If there's one thing that Sheffield Wednesday supporters really need right now, it's clarity, because the end of the club's season has become a bit of a mess with this unresolved managerial situation.

They're in limbo over whether Rohl will be there in a few weeks' time, with the manager's contract meaning that moving on and finding a successor is something that can't really be started until a final decision has been made by either Southampton or him.

A sale of the club remains the way in which Wednesday could get the reset that they really need, but there has been nothing credible to suggest that this will be happening soon. In the meantime, the club remains in a state of limbo.
