Mascot EMMA couldn't resist coming by to make everything was in order – and is even said to have inspected a few blades herself. From a technical point of view, a special process was used for the new pitch: three so-called ‘tufting machines’ processed the surface lane by lane, embroidering synthetic turf fibres into the natural grass that had already been laid – a process known in professional circles as ‘tufting’.

A tufting machine takes around 4.5 hours to complete a lane from goal to goal. In total, it took around a week to complete the entire pitch. The new structure combines natural and artificial turf fibres to create a particularly robust, resilient and weather-resistant surface – ideal for the highly intensive playing conditions at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK.

A look at the technical details reveals the structure: 2,500 stitches per square metre, densely packed fibres and a continuous structure ensure that the turf not only looks good, but also meets the highest standards in terms of playability.
