Lazio coach Marco Baroni has a fresh injury concern in the lead-up to the Napoli showdown, as Adam Marusic reportedly has a calf problem.
The 32-year-old is one of the club’s longest-serving players, arriving at Formello in 2017. The Montenegrin remains an important figure in the coach’s selections, especially due to his ability to cover both flanks. He has also been surprisingly prolific in the last few months, scoring three goals, including the winner in Lecce and the opener against Monza last weekend.
But according to Il Messaggero (via LazioNews24), Marusic’s availability for Saturday’s contest against the Serie A leaders is in doubt due a a calf issue. While the full-back didn’t miss training entirely, he worked on his own, suggesting his condition is less than ideal.
Hence, the experienced player will be closely monitored over the next few hours. If the technical staff were to decide to drop him, Manuel Lazzari would be the natural solution. The Italian made his return from injury last weekend, coming off for Nuno Tavares in the second half.
However, Marusic’s absence would leave Baroni with a depleted full-back department, as Elseid Hysaj is injured while Luca Pellegrini was excluded from the Serie A squad list.
In addition to the Montenegro international, question marks still loom over Boulaye Dia’s availability. The Senegalese striker sustained an ankle knock last weekend, but he’s hoping to recover in time for Saturday’s top clash.
