Denzel Dumfries is set to start on the right flank for Inter Milan in this evening’s Serie A derby showdown with Inter Milan.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
Inter coach Simone Inzaghi will focus on the flanks as a key part of his setup against Milan in the derby this evening.
The Nerazzurri coach’s 3-5-2 system places a fair bit of emphasis on the wingback roles.
And against the Rossoneri, who play with a back four under Paulo Fonseca, this will certainly be the case.
Inzaghi will start Federico Dimarco on the left flank this evening.
The Italian international was absent from the squad against Manchester City on Wednesday. But he is back fit and available, and will make an immediate return to the starting eleven.
The Gazzetta notes that Dimarco will have a key role in Inter’s attack.
The 26-year-old is set to be something of an extra attacker for Inter. He will drift into central positions in the final third to try and exploit spaces in the Milan right side.
On the right flank, meanwhile, Inzaghi will be looking to find the right balance.
And according to the Gazzetta, the coach is ready to hand the start to Dumfries for the first time this season.
Dumfries has not yet started for Inter this campaign.
The Dutchman has made appearances off the bench in every one of the team’s fixtures so far.
Dumfries was the player who scored Inter’s late equalizer as a substitute against Monza last weekend. However, he has not yet started a match.
Rather, veteran former Manchester United defender Matteo Darmian has started every match so far.
But against Milan this evening, the Gazzetta reports, Dumfries will get the nod.
