The South African attacking midfielder ends his journey with the reigning Betway Premiership champions.
Neo Maema / Mamelodi Sundowns
Neo Maema is no longer part of the Mamelodi Sundowns squad. The club officially announced his departure on Friday, August 15, 2025, after four seasons donning the Masandawana colors.
Maema closes the Sundowns chapter after a spell marked by remarkable success. Arriving in 2021 from Bloemfontein Celtic, the 29-year-old featured in 120 matches across all competitions. His time with the Tshwane club coincided with national and continental dominance, highlighted by four league titles, a Nedbank Cup, an MTN8, and an African Football League crown.
The club announced his exit as part of a sweeping squad reshuffle. Several key players have left during this transfer window, including Thembinkosi Lorch, Rivaldo Coetzee, and Sipho Mbule. Maema, who captained South Africa at CHAN, is now a free agent and could be set for a move to another league. Rumors are swirling about interest from Simba SC in Tanzania, though nothing has been confirmed at this stage.
