National media contradicts British press claims on future of Manchester City’s Ederson | OneFootball

Ederson could yet leave Manchester City this summer despite claims from British press suggesting that the Brazilian will be heading nowhere in the ongoing market.

Despite the player’s own public reassurances earlier this year and recent reports seemingly confirming his place at the Etihad for the forthcoming campaign, there is now a growing sense that a departure remains a realistic possibility.

The 31-year-old had previously addressed speculation surrounding his future during the FIFA Club World Cup in the USA, where he reaffirmed his commitment to Manchester City and dismissed the wave of transfer talk as “99 per cent fake.” His comments were seen at the time as a definitive statement of intent to stay and compete for further silverware under Pep Guardiola, however noise around his name has not disappeared since.

The player and his family have not been immune to the effects of the ongoing scrutiny either. Ederson’s wife, Lais Moraes, was forced to limit interactions on her social media accounts due to targeted abuse and online campaigns calling for the goalkeeper’s departure – a reflection of the toxicity that can emerge when player performances are questioned.

Despite this backdrop, Manchester City had continued to maintain a relatively firm stance that Ederson would remain a part of Pep Guardiola’s squad, particularly as interest from Serie A side Napoli collapsed earlier in the window due to financial limitations on their part.

Now, according to the information of HT Spor journalist Ömer Faruk Özcan on X – as translated and relayed by Sport Witness – Galatasaray are ‘close to reaching an agreement’ with Manchester City for Ederson.

A similar line of reporting from Sabah claims that the Süper Lig champions have an agreement with Ederson ‘on all matters’ – presumably personal terms. It is further suggested that they are also close to reaching an agreement with City on a fee of around €8 million to €9 million.

This emerging narrative contradicts claims made by The Athletic, who recently reported that Ederson was expected to remain at Manchester City for the upcoming season – news that surfaced as the Premier League giants struck an agreement with Burnley to re-sign James Trafford.

In that version of events, it was back-up goalkeeper Stefan Ortega Moreno who remained the more likely departure, with Manchester City content on holding on to Ederson as their undisputed No. 1 for the final year of his existing contract.

The growing interest from Galatasaray, however, has been made clear not just through media channels in Turkey but also by the club’s manager, Okan Buruk. Speaking during a recent media appearance, Buruk described Ederson as “a very important option” for the Süper Lig side, before also acknowledging the need for City’s cooperation. “Will City let him go? That’s also an important matter,” he said, hinting at ongoing negotiations behind the scenes.

Ederson is under contract at the Etihad until the summer of 2026 and remains one of the highest-valued goalkeepers in world football, despite questions over his form. Should Galatasaray’s offer prove genuine and substantial enough – even with its reported low fee – City may begin weighing their options in earnest.

Another potential development could hinge on Ortega’s situation. Should the German push for a No.1 role elsewhere and secure a move before the window closes, City may decide that losing both senior keepers in one window poses too great a risk, and consequently close the door on any Ederson exit altogether – regardless of Galatasaray’s progress.
