Napoli lost David Neres shortly before the last game versus Monza, and he has been diagnosed with a calf injury that might keep him on the shelf for all the remaining matches, Corriere dello Sport informs.
More precisely, the Brazilian speedster has suffered a strain in his left soleus muscle. The expected recovery time is three to four weeks. Since there are only five matches left, he might not return if there is any setback or delay.
David Neres got hurt again shortly after returning from a previous thigh lesion that significantly hindered the Napoli frontline, leading to a series of underwhelming displays and draws. He hadn’t been particularly brilliant in his last performances while gearing into shape.
Antonio Conte turned to Leonardo Spinazzola to complete the trident versus the Brianzoli, while Giacomo Raspadori provided a crucial assist off the bench. The Italian striker shone the last time his teammate was out of commission. The boss elected to switch from 4-3-3 to 3-5-2 to better accommodate him. While he benefited from it, the results weren’t satisfactory. The possible alternative is a 4-4-2 with Scott McTominay as a tactical winger.
The tongue turns to the aching tooth, as he’s the one guy they don’t have a direct replacement for. Not adding in his role is Conte’s most legitimate gripe. They have been a tad unlucky too, as his superb first half of the season, which contributed to not going above and beyond for a Khvicha Kvaratskhelia replacement, turned out to be deceiving.
