Newcastle United decided not to make any major signings in the January transfer window.
The Magpies prioritised sales in order to comply with the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
Given they also didn’t make a marquee addition last summer, Football Today believes Newcastle United will have funds to spend in the next transfer window to improve their squad.
Eddie Howe’s side want to sign a new attacker and they are reportedly interested in Feyenoord star Igor Paixao.
This is according to the Sunday Mirror who report the club have sent scouts to watch the 24-year-old in recent months.
However, Newcastle face a tough battle to land the talented winger as Napoli are “ready to pose a serious threat” to the Premier League club in the race for the Brazilian.
It is said the Serie A club rate him among their top targets and are optimistic of doing a deal.
Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest, Tottenham Hotspur and Bournemouth have also been credited with an interest and could make a move for him in the summer.
Paixao is one of the top European talents to emerge in recent years. He began his career at Coritiba before moving to the Netherlands to play for Feyenoord in 2022.
The young forward has established himself as one of the key players for the Eredivisie outfit. Operating mainly as a left-winger, he has scored nine goals and created 11 assists in 25 league matches this season.
Paixao, who has been described as a “hidden gem” by Guillem Balague, received a lot of praise for his scintillating attacking display against AC Milan’s Kyle Walker during Feyenoord’s 1-0 victory over the Serie A giants last month.
He also made headlines in the media after netting a brilliant hat-trick in their 6-2 success over FC Twente last weekend.
