Although it has been some years since Lionel Messi left FC Barcelona, the Blaugrana fans naturally still want to see their beloved legend return to their club in some capacity.

The Argentine is currently playing in the last years of his contract with the Major League Soccer side Inter Miami, accompanied by some other big names in the Catalan club’s history, like Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba.

Despite not departing in the best of circumstances, he still remembers his time at Barcelona with fondness. This was quite clear as he recently appeared in an interview on a YouTube channel.

As Mundo Deportivo has reported, La Pulga admitted that he wanted to return to the Blaugrana club after winning the World Cup in 2022:

“After the World Cup, I couldn’t see myself at any European club other than Barça. My goal was to come back. To return home, where it all started. But unfortunately, it wasn’t possible.”

Messi also expressed his gratitude for being able to win everything with Barcelona and his national team:

“Being able to say that I’ve achieved everything in football is truly valuable. As I always say, on a collective level I’ve been lucky enough to win it all with both my club and the national team at Barcelona, and to achieve the same with the national side.

It’s something I think I’ll appreciate even more with time. That’s why I always say I’m very grateful for it, for everything it’s given me. Yes, God has given me all of that.”

It is definitely good to see Messi remembering Barcelona with fondness after all these years. He was unable to leave the Catalan club with the honour and love that he deserved, but hopefully, he will return to his beloved club in the future in some capacity, and perhaps write even more glorious chapters in the Blaugrana history.
