Yunus Musah’s season has certainly been quite strange, but the American believes he can continue to get better for AC Milan.
Players like Musah are extremely difficult to find, and when you do find them, they are even more difficult to nurture. On the face of it, Milan have an extremely gifted physical talent, comfortable centrally and on the wing. However, it is not that simple.
Still, 18 months on from purchasing him, the Rossoneri are yet to find his best position, with his cameos spread across the pitch, leaving many frustrated with the lack of plan and identity to his growth.
However, in an interview today with Goal, the midfielder has admitted that he also has a responsibility to continue growing and ‘be better’ for the Diavolo – Milan Press have relayed his comments.
On his experiences in football…
“I was, at one point, the youngest American player with the most minutes in Europe. Having this opportunity, you make so many mistakes in a game. You learn from all these experiences at such a young age.

“They helped me to shape up and handle these pressures. I already have a lot of experience and I am grateful for that because it will certainly help me in the future. It seems like many years, but it all happened so fast. So much has happened in four years.”
On his experience and difficulties at AC Milan…
“When you play for Milan, you expect to have that pressure. It’s a privilege because, at the end of the day, if I wasn’t a professional footballer, I wouldn’t experience these things.
“You also have to take the positives and then when people criticise you, say bad things about you, I have heard so many of them during my career that now they don’t bother me at all. At first, you see them and you listen to them. Then, you see them and they get inside you anyway.
“You learn to ignore the comments, but you see them anyway. They get inside you. On the other hand, since people have been seeing me play for a long time, they are not so patient anymore. When you play longer, you have to be better. I understand that. I understand it, for sure.”
On his ability to make friends easily with everyone…
“It was like second nature, I guess. I had to do it a lot. I had to do it all the time, actually. Coming into the team, I didn’t know anyone, maybe I only knew Gio [Reyna] having played against him, but when you’re open to new friendships, you manage to do it.

“At the end of the day, especially with football, it’s easier to become friends once you get on the field.
“I think being in the business longer, knowing how everything works, makes you feel more comfortable. As a person, I’m less shy now, I guess. I’ve done so many interviews and talked to so many people, that it’s all becoming natural now. I can say with certainty, though, that I have changed…”
At this moment in life…
“I’m very lucky to have my family now. I’m just happy, man. Simply happy. That’s all I can say. I’m enjoying the moment and I’m still myself, but this is just another good thing in my life.”
There is still room for Musah to grow, and Milan will not give up on the player especially considering what he can bring to the side.
