A defensive mistake allowed Dujuan Richards to rifle a shot into the bottom corner.

Chelsea had the ball in the net again in the 27th minute when Harrison Murray-Campbell reacted to a loose ball from a corner to score, only for it to be ruled out for a foul by Jesse Derry.

The right winger made amends by scoring the Blues’ second goal on 36 minutes, getting past his marker before running into the penalty area to power a low shot into the net.

Shim Mheuka’s effort to extend Chelsea’s lead before half-time was saved by goalkeeper Adam Harrison.

Midfielder Leo Cardoso was introduced after the hour mark and nearly made an impact. He set up Derry, whose close-range effort was saved by the goalkeeper.

Five minutes after the restart, Newcastle’s Trevan Sanusi’s shot flashed wide of the post before Derry forced goalkeeper Adam Harrison to make a save.

Chelsea extended their lead through the individual brilliance of Ryan Kavuma-McQueen.

The winger received a pass from Landon Emenalo, ran into the penalty area with a brilliant solo run and smashed a low shot into the far corner.

The visitors scored again as Cardoso brilliantly drove into the box to shoot – Harrison saved his effort, but Shim Mheuka converted the rebound.

Murray-Campbell completed the scoring with a brilliant free-kick in the 84th minute following a foul on Reggie Walsh.

Calum McFarlane’s side have now scored eight goals in this campaign – the joint-highest in the division.

They return to action on Tuesday evening when they visit League Two side Shrewsbury Town in the EFL Trophy.
