Everton manager David Moyes is hopeful Vitalii Mykolenko will pass a late fitness test to feature in Wednesday's Merseyside derby against Liverpool.
The Ukrainian is the only senior left-back available to the Toffees but sent a wave of panic across the club when he picked up an injury during the international break - although there is now fresh hope that the issue is not as bad as first feared.
Moyes also issued further encouraging updates on both Dwight McNeil and Iliman Ndiaye too, who are both nearing a return to full fitness.
"Vitalii's got a bit of an injury but he's back and did a bit of training yesterday so we're hopeful he's okay. We'll need to wait until tomorrow to make a call on that," he told reporters.
"Both the other lads are coming along great. Ili is a bit further on than Dwight at the moment. It's great they're back in training and it has helped us a little bit with having Dom [Calvert-Lewin] out.
"He's the only one who is really behind it at the moment. We're just waiting on him coming back but the rest are all getting much closer to fitness."
Everton drew 2-2 in the season's previous clash with Liverpool, thanks to a last gasp James Tarkowski equaliser.
