Mason Mount has suffered a further setback in his frustrating Manchester United career with the midfielder limping out of the first half against rivals Manchester City.
The 25-year-old has made just seven appearances for United this season but looked to making good progress under new manager Ruben Amorim.
Mount, who cost United £60m two summers ago, looked distraught as he trudged off after just 12 minutes at the Etihad.
United captain Bruno Fernandes was first to console Mount before Amorim acknowledged the frustrated midfielder before he headed straight down the tunnel.
Since moving to Old Trafford, Mount has only accumulated 32 appearances, managing to complete a full game just once.
He has missed a total of 30 matches as an injury absentee and could face his latest spell on the sidelines over the hectic winter period.
Amorim made a few huge calls for United’s trip to the Etihad, leaving both Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho out of the squad entirely.
